(I am not speaking on behalf of Alexa or Amazon.) Actually, you don't need the Alexa Toolbar to affect Alexa data feeds or to get get back Site Information: FireFox has a perfectly good, cross-platform extension called SearchStatus (http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/) that that shows you both Google PageRank and Alexa TrafficRank. It's always interesting (for me) to see where they differ; in general, Alexa seems to correctly rate sites in the correct order of magnitude as compared to organizations like comScore. The Toolbar also doesn't collect more information than it says it does or more than other, similar toolbars --- like the Google Toolbar.
